With many communities throughout New England getting on board with the new Stretch Energy Code, it is just a matter of time before these codes become a requirement. As of May 28, 2010, 44 municipalities in Massachusetts have already adopted the Stretch Code. One of the main goals of the new code is to insulate tighter and ventilate properly for better air quality. In addition, under this code all new construction must comply with the Energy Star Qualified Homes Thermal Bypass Inspection Checklist. All requirements under this new code will be inspected and rated by a RESNET (Residential Energy Services Network) certified HERS (Home Energy Rating System) rater.
A HERS rater is responsible for evaluating the construction project at the pre-construction stage and mid-construction stage, providing the home builder with final documentation of the evaluations.
